Andhra Pradesh Assembly Suspends TDP MLAs Over Protest Against Naidu’s Arrest

In the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, 15 MLAs from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were suspended for one day for disrupting proceedings to protest the arrest of their party’s national president and former CM Chandrababu Naidu. Additionally, three members were suspended for the remainder of the session for showing disrespect to the Chair.

The TDP legislators had demanded a debate on Naidu’s arrest, and when their adjournment motion was rejected, they disrupted the House by trooping into the Well, surrounding the Speaker’s podium, and raising slogans. Amid the pandemonium, the Speaker suspended the TDP MLAs, who continued their protest outside the Assembly, vowing to raise their voice against what they deemed Naidu’s ‘illegal’ arrest. Similar protests occurred in the Legislative Council.
