Andhra Pradesh High Court Dismisses PIL Against ECI Order

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) directive barring volunteers from disbursing social welfare pensions. The court ruled the PIL as not maintainable, noting that the government had already made arrangements for pension distribution at ward and village secretariats, as well as doorstep delivery for beneficiaries unable to collect in person.

Rejecting the petitioners’ arguments regarding violations of constitutional rights and allegations of political motivation, the court emphasized the adequacy of existing arrangements for pension disbursement. With this decision, the court reaffirms the legality of the ECI’s directive and the government’s efforts to ensure effective pension distribution to eligible beneficiaries.
