BJP Rejects Alliance in Tamil Nadu Polls

Chennai: In the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, political discussions are continuing as major parties explore possibilities of forming the next government.
While talks are underway between the DMK and AIADMK alliances regarding government formation, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made its position clear that it will not take part in any coalition or government formation process.
Tamil Nadu BJP state president Nainar Nagendran announced that the party, despite winning only one seat, will not join any alliance, will not support any party in forming the government, and will also not take part in voting decisions related to government formation.
He added that the BJP respects the mandate given by the people and will act as a responsible opposition party.
The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election has brought major political changes in the state. For nearly five decades since 1977, either DMK or AIADMK had been forming the government alternately in Tamil Nadu.
However, this time, actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as a strong new political force, marking a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
TVK has won 108 seats, making it a major party in the Assembly. However, it has not reached the required 118 seats needed for a clear majority.
Because of this, the Governor has not yet invited Vijay to form the government, as the party still needs additional support from other parties to prove its majority.
As a result, discussions and political negotiations are continuing across party lines, while the final decision on government formation remains uncertain.
