Ceasefire Brings Calm to West Asia

A fragile calm has spread across parts of West Asia following a US-mediated ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon, which took effect Thursday. This truce, lasting ten days, marks what President Donald Trump described as a potentially significant moment for the region. The agreement came after six weeks of intense conflict involving Hezbollah, an Iran-backed armed group. Despite the initial success with no major violations on its first day, both sides remain cautious.

Thousands of Lebanese families displaced by the fighting are cautiously returning to their homes in the south. However, authorities have warned of minor ceasefire breaches and significant structural damage across the region. The situation remains tense, particularly as concerns about ongoing hostilities persist, especially given Hezbollah’s ties to Iran.
