Challenges of Campaigning in Kerala’s Sweltering Heat

The scorching summer temperatures in Kerala are posing a significant challenge to the ongoing election campaign for the Lok Sabha. With the state experiencing some of the hottest weather in a decade, candidates and party workers are finding it difficult to navigate the intense heat, especially in districts like Palakkad, Kollam, and Ernakulam. To combat the soaring mercury levels, campaign timings have been adjusted, with breaks scheduled during the hottest parts of the day and more indoor meetings organized.

Additionally, candidates are making dietary adjustments, increasing water intake, and avoiding direct sunlight exposure. Health experts advise maintaining hydration, reducing tea and coffee consumption, and wearing breathable cotton clothes to mitigate the risk of heat-related illnesses. Despite concerns, party leaders remain optimistic, hoping for relief from the heat with the onset of potential summer rains in mid-April, as indicated by weather forecasts and expert analysis.
