Chennai Corporation to Enhance Recreational Spaces Post Election

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is gearing up to identify new land parcels across the city to develop playgrounds and parks for recreation and disaster mitigation. Once the model code of conduct is lifted after the Lok Sabha election, the GCC intends to identify additional land for recreation, aiming to convert open space reservation (OSR) areas into urban recreation spaces for people of all ages.

Under the theme of sponge parks, the GCC aims to effectively utilize OSR spaces for both recreation and disaster mitigation. With increasing demands from residents and political parties highlighting the need for more playgrounds and parks, the Corporation plans to prioritize the development of modern recreational spaces in various localities, addressing the longstanding issue of inadequate playgrounds in newly developed areas.
