Chennai Corporation to Penalize Supervisors for Conservancy Workers Without Safety Gear

The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) is set to penalize supervisors and officials overseeing conservancy workers who neglect to use safety gear. Despite repeated instructions, some workers have cited discomfort as a reason to avoid safety gear, prompting the GCC to consider holding supervisors accountable. Corporation Commissioner J. Radhakrishnan emphasized the importance of adhering to safety protocols to prevent negative health impacts on workers.

The GCC provides safety gear, including gloves and boots, to workers involved in waste management. The move aims to ensure the well-being of conservancy workers and enforce safety measures. Earlier instances of workers cleaning silt catch pits with bare hands prompted increased scrutiny and intervention to address safety concerns.
