Chennai Government Hospital Successfully Performs 11th Heart Transplant

The Tamil Nadu Government Multi Super Speciality Hospital in Omandurar Estate has achieved its 11th successful heart transplantation surgery. The recent recipient, 27-year-old Ajith Kumar from Alangudi in Pudukottai district, underwent a heart transplant and has been discharged. Mr. Kumar, who was working abroad when he required a heart transplant, was flown back to India and admitted to the hospital on July 3.

The life-saving heart was obtained from a 57-year-old brain-dead patient at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, and the intricate surgery took place on August 22. Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma. Subramanian praised the hospital’s dedication and revealed that the facility has experienced a significant increase in patient traffic, with daily outpatients surging from 500-700 to 2,000 and in-patients increasing from 250 to 500. Over 550 patients visit the cardiology department for treatment.
