CM Vijay Announces Farm Loan Waiver Increase
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. M. Vijay has announced an increase in the farm loan waiver scheme as his government completed 100 days in office. The new decision is aimed at providing additional financial support to small and marginal farmers across the state.
Under the revised scheme, eligible farmers can now receive a loan waiver of up to ₹75,000. This is an increase from the earlier maximum limit of ₹50,000.
Higher Waiver for Small and Marginal Farmers
According to the new plan, farmers with loans between ₹75,000 and ₹1 lakh will be eligible for a maximum waiver of ₹75,000.
Farmers who have loans above ₹1 lakh will receive a waiver of up to ₹35,000, according to the announced scheme.
The government said the revised support is intended to reduce the financial pressure faced by farmers and help them manage their agricultural expenses.
Thousands of Farmers Already Received Support
Chief Minister Vijay said that a large part of the allocated amount has already been transferred to farmers.
Of the total ₹5,932.23 crore set aside for the loan waiver, around ₹5,267 crore has already been deposited into the bank accounts of 13.34 lakh farmers.
The government has identified around 14.44 lakh farmers as eligible under the scheme.
This means that most of the eligible beneficiaries have already received financial assistance, while the remaining payments are expected to be processed according to the government’s procedures.
Additional Waiver Announced
The Chief Minister also announced that eligible farmers will receive an additional waiver of up to ₹40,000, depending on their loan amount and eligibility.
The additional assistance is expected to cost the state government around ₹953.06 crore.
The government believes that this extra support will provide important relief to farmers who continue to face financial difficulties.
Total Support Could Reach ₹6,220 Crore
With the latest announcement, the total value of the farm loan waiver programme is expected to reach around ₹6,220 crore.
The scheme is expected to benefit approximately 13.34 lakh farmers across Tamil Nadu.
The government has described the decision as an important step towards supporting the farming community and reducing the burden of agricultural loans.
Support for the Farming Community
Farmers often face financial challenges due to rising input costs, changing weather conditions, crop losses and fluctuating market prices. Loan repayments can add further pressure, particularly for small farmers.
The increased waiver is expected to give eligible farmers more financial flexibility. It could help them manage expenses related to seeds, fertilisers, equipment and other agricultural needs.
The announcement also comes as the Tamil Nadu government completes its first 100 days. The government has highlighted the farm loan waiver as one of its major measures aimed at supporting rural communities.
With additional funds being allocated, the state government is expected to continue the process of providing relief to eligible farmers.
The latest decision has therefore become an important part of the government’s 100-day initiatives, with the aim of giving greater financial support to Tamil Nadu’s farmers and reducing their loan burden.
