Cyclone Michaung Causes Damage at Vandalur Zoo: Trees Uprooted and Walls Damaged

The impact of Cyclone Michaung led to significant damage at the Arignar Anna Zoological Park (AAZP) in Vandalur. The heavy rainfall and strong winds caused around 30 trees to be uprooted within the zoo premises. Additionally, the compound walls along the Vandalur-Kelambakkam road, stretching a total length of 50 meters, were damaged, resulting in localized flooding on the road.

Despite the structural damage, the zoo’s director, Srinivas R. Reddy, assured that no harm came to the animals, and all enclosures remained intact. The overflow of Otteri lake within the zoo led to the damage of a portion of its compound wall, causing flooding downstream. Efforts are underway to monitor and manage water levels, with drainage systems being cleared to facilitate proper water drainage.
