Power Supply Suspended Due to Cyclone Michaung Impact in Chennai
In response to the flooding caused by Cyclone Michaung in Chennai and its suburbs, the power supply has been deliberately suspended as a safety measure. The decision was made after heavy rainfall inundated various localities, leading to water stagnation on streets and arterial roads. The shutdown encompasses the south, west, north, and several central areas of Chennai, with the Tangedco officials stating that electricity would not be restored until Tuesday evening.
The precautionary measure aims to prevent potential incidents, including electrocution, as rainwater entered sub-stations in Taramani, Velachery, Avadi, and Porur. Residents in multiple areas, such as T. Nagar, Velachery, Adyar, and Mogappair, experienced power cuts due to the adverse weather conditions caused by Cyclone Michaung. The disruption in power supply also affected mobile networks as several exchanges faced outages, impacting communication services for residents.
