Humanitarian Aid Reaches Conflict-Hit Sudan
In the midst of the ongoing violent conflict in Sudan, the UN Humanitarians have been working tirelessly to deliver aid to the affected regions. Since May 22, over 780 trucks have been deployed to transport approximately 35,000 tonnes of crucial aid across the country.
During the period of July 22 to 27, more than 40 trucks carried 1,600 tonnes of food to Kassala, Gedaref, and White Nile states, while an additional five trucks transported 300 tonnes of relief to West Kordofan state. The World Food Programme (WFP) has been actively providing food and nutrition assistance to more than 450,000 people in Central, East, North, and South Darfur states since the conflict erupted on April 15, involving the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
The conflict has been particularly devastating in the vast western region of Darfur, where over 3,000 lives have been lost, and more than 6,000 people have been injured. The situation remains dire, with both sides blaming each other for escalating the violence, and the humanitarian efforts are crucial to providing much-needed assistance to those affected by the conflict in Sudan.
