India A to Play New Zealand A Before Senior Team’s WTC Matches

India A will visit New Zealand in October for three four-day matches against New Zealand A. This series, running from 24 October to 10 November, is meant to prepare Indian players for the local conditions.

The senior Indian team has several matches planned: a five-match T20I series, ODIs, and two Tests. These will take place from 22 October until 15 November. Wellington will host the first Test on 19 November, followed by Christchurch for the second Test starting on 27 November.

The India A tour includes matches in Lincoln (24-27 October), Christchurch (31 October-3 November), and concludes in Lincoln again from 7-10 November. These matches clash with domestic cricket seasons in both countries, including India’s Ranji Trophy, which starts on 11 October, and New Zealand’s Ford Trophy, running from 28 October to 12 November. There will be a one-week break before New Zealand’s Plunket Shield begins on 19 November.

India A, led by Shubman Gill, is fifth in the WTC standings with 68 points and a 51.52% PCT. New Zealand, third with 72.22%, aims to improve their position ahead of the final. After facing New Zealand, India will play Australia in a five-match Test series at home early next year. Currently, Australia leads the WTC standings with 96 points and an 80% PCT.

India recently defeated Sri Lanka 1-0 in a two-match Test series. They need to win six out of their last seven Tests to reach around 65% PCT. These upcoming Tests against New Zealand are crucial for India’s WTC positioning, with the race heating up. The tour will also help prepare younger players for overseas challenges.
