India Revises Export Duties on Fuels

The Finance Ministry has announced a change in fuel export duties through a late-night gazette notification issued on Friday. The revised decision aims to support fuel exports and adjust tax rates based on current market conditions.

According to the notification, the export duty on petrol has been increased from zero to ₹3 per litre. This means exporters will now have to pay a small tax when shipping petrol outside the country.

At the same time, the government has reduced export duties on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF). The duty on diesel has been lowered to ₹16.5 per litre, while the duty on ATF has been cut to ₹16 per litre. Officials said these changes are intended to balance export competitiveness and revenue needs.

However, there has been no change in the excise duty rates for petrol and diesel used within India. Domestic fuel prices will remain unaffected by this revision, as the new changes apply only to exports.

The government’s move is expected to impact oil marketing companies and exporters, as they adjust to the revised tax structure. Experts say the decision reflects efforts to manage fuel exports more efficiently while maintaining stability in the domestic market.
