India vs Sri Lanka: WTC Standings and Future Matches

The Indian cricket team is set to face Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series starting on August 15 in Galle. This series is part of the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle for 2025-26.

Currently, India stands fifth in the WTC standings with four wins and four losses out of nine matches, holding a points percentage of 48.15%. Sri Lanka is sixth with one win, one loss, and two draws, giving them a points percentage of 41.67%.

If Sri Lanka wins the series 2-0, they will surpass India in the standings. A 2-0 victory would boost their points to 61%, moving them up to fourth place. For India, a loss could drop their points to 39%, while Sri Lanka gains ground.

India’s performance in this series is crucial for their WTC final qualification chances. The team departed from Mumbai on August 8 and will play the second Test in Colombo starting August 23.

Following this series, India will travel to New Zealand in November-December under challenging conditions. Since 2008/09, India has not won a Test series in New Zealand, with only two wins overall historically. Post that tour, India will host Australia in January 2027.
