Israel-Iran LIVE: Iran FM Sees Putin Meeting as Chance for War Talks

Iran’s Foreign Minister visited Russia on Sunday (April 26, 2024) as efforts to bring peace between Tehran and Washington remained uncertain. This came after a series of diplomatic meetings in the region and the failure of planned talks in Pakistan.

Abbas Araghchi stopped in Oman during his travels, which included visits to Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. He is expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday (April 27, 2024), according to Iranian officials.

Iran proposed a new plan through Pakistani mediators for the U.S., involving the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and ending the war, with nuclear negotiations delayed for later, Axios reported. Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif spoke with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian about regional developments.

Efforts to broker a ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran failed after Tehran’s top diplomat left Pakistan. The U.S. delegation did not attend meetings in Islamabad following orders from President Donald Trump, who said there was no point in “sitting around talking about nothing.” He added that the war would not restart immediately.
