Jaishankar Highlights Cricket Bond With Trinidad

Speaking during a flag-raising ceremony in Port of Spain, Jaishankar highlighted the strong cultural, historical, and people-to-people ties shared by the two nations.
He explained that cricket is more than just a sport for both countries — it is a shared passion that strengthens friendship and creates a unique bond between their people.
Jaishankar also emphasized the deep historical connections between India and Trinidad and Tobago, especially through the Indian diaspora, many of whom trace their roots back to India.

The minister arrived in Port of Spain from Paramaribo on Friday, May 8, 2026, as part of the final leg of his three-nation Caribbean tour.
His visit included stops in Jamaica, Suriname, and Trinidad and Tobago, with the aim of strengthening India’s strategic, economic, and cultural partnerships with Caribbean countries.
Throughout the tour, Jaishankar focused on expanding cooperation in key areas such as trade, development, education, and cultural exchange.
His remarks in Trinidad and Tobago underlined India’s broader diplomatic efforts to deepen relations with Caribbean nations while also celebrating the strong historical and cultural links that continue to unite them.
