Karnataka Police Launch Probe into Threat Calls to DIG and Union Minister’s Office

Karnataka Police have initiated an investigation into threatening phone calls made to Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Prisons (North Range) T.P. Sheha from two different state prisons, including the central jail in Parappana Agrahara near Bengaluru and Hindalaga Prison in Belagavi. The caller, claiming knowledge of underworld figure Bannanje Raja, threatened to explode Sheha’s residential quarters and mentioned familiarity with prison personnel.

Additionally, threat calls from Hindalaga Prison targeted Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s Nagpur office, demanding a Rs 10 crore ransom under threat of an explosion. Subsequent investigations revealed that Jayesh Poojari, also known as Jayesh Kanth and a prisoner at Hindalaga, made these calls from a cellphone on two occasions. His connection to terrorist Afsar Pasha has also surfaced in the course of the investigations.
