UK and Tamil Nadu Collaborate on Smart Tech Project for Sustainable Water, Waste, and Resource Management

The UK and the Indian state of Tamil Nadu are joining forces on a smart technology project aimed at fostering sustainable water, waste, and resource management. The initiative, titled ‘Smart District Administration Using IoT technologies for a Better Quality of life,’ has been selected under the Frontier Technology Livestreaming (FTL) program. This UK-backed ‘Smart District’ endeavor will deploy sensors across the district to gather real-time data concerning water and waste management as well as environmental quality.

The collected data will be analyzed for patterns to support informed decision-making for efficient resource allocation. This project represents India’s sole participation among 58 pilots conducted across 32 countries since 2016. Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the UK’s Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, inaugurated the project with Tamil Nadu’s Information Technology Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan. The initiative seeks to address global sustainability challenges through cutting-edge technology.
