VCK Support May Boost TVK Government Bid
Tamil Nadu’s political situation remains highly tense as government formation efforts continue after the 2026 Assembly election delivered a fractured mandate.
Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), which holds two Assembly seats, is expected to officially announce its support for Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
If VCK extends its support, it could play a crucial role in helping TVK move closer to forming the next government in Tamil Nadu.
TVK emerged as the single largest party in the Assembly election, winning 108 seats, but it still fell short of the majority mark required to independently form the government.
Meanwhile, the government formation process became more controversial overnight due to a political dispute between TVK and Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK).
AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran accused TVK of submitting a forged photocopy letter to the Governor, falsely claiming that AMMK’s only MLA-elect, Kamaraj, had extended support to TVK.
According to Dhinakaran, the support letter was not genuine, and he strongly criticized TVK’s actions.
In response, TVK released a video that it claimed showed Kamaraj personally writing and signing a support letter in favor of TVK.
This conflicting narrative has added fresh uncertainty and political drama to an already unstable situation.
With no party or alliance securing a clear majority, every MLA’s support has become crucial, making negotiations, alliances, and accusations even more intense.
As VCK’s final decision is awaited, Tamil Nadu’s political future remains uncertain, with the coming days likely to determine whether Vijay’s TVK can successfully form the next government.
