Young Star Leads Team to Review Decision

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old cricketer from East Zone, played an important role in the Duleep Trophy final. He not only scored runs but also showed quick thinking during the match against South Zone in Chennai.

Sooryavanshi convinced his captain, Ishan Kishan, to review a decision that seemed correct at first. This happened on the third day of the final at MA Chidambaram Stadium. East Zone had posted 708 runs in their first innings, with Kishan scoring an impressive 270.

In South Zone’s reply, Mukesh Kumar bowled a ball to Ricky Bhui that seemed to hit the bat. However, the on-field umpire didn’t dismiss Bhui. Sooryavanshi and wicketkeeper Kumar Kushagra believed it was a valid dismissal. Sooryavanshi then urged Kishan to review the decision, repeatedly telling him, “Take it, take it.”

The review system confirmed their belief: Bhui had edged the ball, giving East Zone their first wicket. This showed how valuable Sooryavanshi’s input was, even though he wasn’t the captain.

Earlier in the tournament, Sooryavanshi had stepped in as captain during the semi-final when Kishan was injured. He continued to show leadership, convincing Kishan to review another decision later in the innings, but that one didn’t go East Zone’s way.

Before his impactful fielding, Sooryavanshi had scored 44 runs off 37 balls in East Zone’s big total. His partnership with Abhimanyu Easwaran was quick and effective before he was dismissed.
