Delhi Schools Directed To Form Anti-Tobacco Committees

The Delhi Directorate of Education has instructed all government, government-aided, and recognised private schools to take steps to prevent tobacco use and substance abuse on their campuses. Schools have been asked to form anti-tobacco committees, conduct regular awareness programmes, and follow a standard plan to keep their campuses free from drugs and other harmful substances.

These measures are part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and the Nasha Mukt Delhi Campaign. The main aim is to educate students about the dangers of tobacco and substance abuse, identify problems at an early stage, and provide support to students who need help.

According to the instructions, every school must form or strengthen an Institution Level Task Force (ITF) or Anti-Tobacco Committee. The committee will be led by the school principal or headteacher and will be responsible for planning and monitoring activities to prevent substance abuse.

The committee will include a nodal teacher, a Health and Wellness Ambassador, a parent representative, a student representative, and a local police officer. These members will work together to spread awareness and ensure that preventive measures are properly implemented.

Schools have also been instructed to strengthen their Prahari Clubs. These clubs will organise regular awareness activities and encourage students to understand the harmful effects of tobacco and drugs.

As part of the initiative, schools must conduct monthly awareness sessions for students from Classes 6 to 12. These sessions will help students learn about the risks of substance abuse and encourage them to make healthy and responsible choices.

The initiative aims to create safer school environments and protect students from the harmful effects of tobacco and substance abuse.
