Chennai Opens Temporary Terminals During Broadway Renovation
With the renovation of the Broadway bus terminus about to start, two temporary bus terminals have been opened so city buses can run smoothly. The new terminals are at Island Grounds and near the Royapuram NRT flyover. Ministers SS Sivasankar and PK Sekarbabu officially opened them on Thursday.
According to officials, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) will start running buses from these temporary terminals from today.
The Island Grounds terminal was built by the Greater Chennai Corporation at a cost of Rs 8.44 crore. It is spread over 10,713 square meters, measuring 280 meters long and 38 meters wide.
The terminal has 34 bus bays and can handle 73 bus routes. Around 526 buses will run daily, serving nearly 1 lakh passengers.
Facilities at the terminal include:
60 benches for waiting passengers
Separate toilets for men, women, disabled, and trans persons
Drinking water kiosks
Staff dining areas
Police rooms for security
Ticket counters
15 small shops
Parking space for 150 two-wheelers
These temporary terminals ensure that commuters can travel easily while the Broadway bus terminus is being renovated.
