Manchester United’s Top 5 Transfer Targets for January
Manchester United has had a poor start to their 2026-27 season, winning only two out of twelve games so far. Despite Michael Carrick taking over as manager full-time at the beginning of the season, the team has struggled, securing just one Premier League win in eight matches and facing defeats in the Champions League.
Injuries have hit the squad hard, with forward Benjamin Sesko sidelined for much of the season and no proper left-back signed during the summer. The club spent £155 million on midfield reinforcements like Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos but has yet to see the desired impact.
With January transfer window approaching, here are five players Manchester United could target:
1. Tyrick Mitchell – A versatile defender at Crystal Palace with experience in both left-back and wing-back roles. His contract expires next June, making him a potential bargain for United.
2. Rayan Ait-Nouri – Currently out of favor at Manchester City, Ait-Nouri could be available in January. The 25-year-old has nine assists in his time with City and offers solid defensive contributions.
3. Adrien Truffert – A rising star at Bournemouth since joining from Rennes for £14 million last year. His recent performance against United showed his potential, but competition for him is fierce.
4. Dominic Calvert-Lewin – Leeds United’s top scorer this season with five goals, Calvert-Lewin could provide much-needed depth in attack. However, Leeds might extend his contract to keep him from leaving.
5. Jean-Philippe Mateta – A powerful striker at Crystal Palace, Mateta excels in aerial duels and has scored consistently since joining in 2022. If deals for others fall through, he could be a reliable backup option.
