India Withdraws From 2022 Women’s Asian Cup
In 2022, India was selected to host the AFC Women’s Asian Cup for the first time since 1980. There was great excitement about playing in front of home fans, and the team and supporters were looking forward to the tournament.
However, the celebrations were cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Several teams had players who tested positive for the virus, but India was hit the hardest, with 12 players testing positive.
Because of this, India was unable to form a full 13-member squad for their opening match. Without enough players to compete, the Indian team had no choice but to withdraw from the tournament.
The situation was very disappointing for the players and fans, as hosting the tournament at home was seen as a historic opportunity. It also highlighted the challenges sports teams faced during the pandemic, where even careful planning could not prevent outbreaks from affecting important events.
Despite this setback, Indian football continues to grow, and the team remains determined to perform strongly in future tournaments. Fans hope to see the Indian women’s team compete at home again once the conditions are safe and stable.
