Attack Kills 20 in Nigeria’s North-Central Region
Nigeria: At least 20 people have been killed in an attack on a community in the north-central part of the country. The incident took place last night in Gari Ya Waye, a village in the Jos North area of Plateau State.
Local authorities quickly responded by imposing a two-day curfew in the area. The curfew is meant to prevent further violence and help security forces control the situation. Residents have been asked to stay indoors while officials work to restore peace.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. Security agencies have started an investigation to find out who was behind it and why it happened.
This incident highlights the ongoing violence in north-central Nigeria. The region has faced repeated clashes over the years, often linked to conflicts between Fulani herders, who are mostly Muslim, and farming communities, who are largely Christian. These conflicts are usually about land use and grazing rights and sometimes turn deadly.
In addition to these clashes, criminal gangs are also active in the region. Their activities have made the situation more unstable and dangerous for local people.
Authorities say they are taking steps to improve security and prevent further attacks, but tensions remain high in the area.
