India and Ecuador Explore Preferential Trade Agreement for Stronger Economic Ties

India and Ecuador are exploring the possibility of signing a preferential trade agreement to improve economic ties and increase trade between the two countries.

During important discussions held this week, India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld Rosero to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

The talks focused on expanding cooperation in several key sectors, including healthcare, agriculture, and digital technology. Both countries expressed interest in building stronger partnerships that could create new opportunities for economic growth and development.

According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the proposed trade agreement could help reduce trade barriers, improve market access, and encourage investment between India and Ecuador.

In addition to trade, the two nations also discussed collaboration in medical services, agricultural innovation, and digital transformation. These areas are seen as important for boosting long-term cooperation and sharing expertise.

The meeting reflects growing diplomatic efforts by both countries to deepen their partnership and explore new avenues for mutual benefit. If finalized, the trade agreement could mark a significant step in expanding India’s presence in Latin America while supporting Ecuador’s economic diversification.
