Tragedy in Cricket World: Teenager’s Suicide After Rejection
A 19-year-old aspiring cricketer from Puducherry reportedly took her own life after not being selected for the U-19 cricket team. The young woman, identified as Angel Gangwani, was a BBA student and had been training at a local coaching center.
Angel lived in a rented house in Puducherry with her family. She recently participated in trials for the Puducherry U-19 T20 team but was not chosen. Her landlord reported that she became deeply depressed after the rejection and stopped answering calls from her coach, Kathirvel.
On the evening of Wednesday, Angel was found hanging by her coach, who had gone to check on her after she didn’t respond. She was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
This incident highlights the growing concern over mental health in sports, especially among young athletes. With intense schedules and high-pressure competitions, many players face burnout and stress. Mental health issues are becoming more recognized in the cricket world, with top players like Ben Stokes and Glenn Maxwell taking breaks to manage their well-being.
