Harper Hits Homer, Nola Shines as Phillies Win 1-0
Bryce Harper hit a home run, double, and single, while Aaron Nola pitched six strong innings. The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Miami Marlins 1-0 on Monday night.
Adolis García had two hits for the Phillies, who won three out of four games in Miami. They improved to 6-1 under interim manager Don Mattingly.
Nola (2-3) bounced back from a tough previous start, allowing five hits and striking out five batters. He gave up 11 runs over his last two appearances but pitched well this time. Tanner Banks, José Alvarado, and Brad Keller handled the remaining innings, with Keller earning his second save.
Phillies catcher Garrett Stubbs threw out two base runners, Jakob Marsee and Otto López, for the first time in a game. Harper put the Phillies ahead in the third inning with a long home run off Marlins starter Janson Junk.
The Marlins struggled to score, with Junk allowing five hits over 5 1/3 innings. Marlins rookie Joe Mack made his major league debut but went 0 for 3.
Next, the Phillies will host the Athletics, with LHP Cristopher Sánchez starting on Tuesday. The Marlins will face the Baltimore Orioles, with RHP Sandy Alcantara scheduled to pitch.
