Vijay Honors LTTE Chief and Tamil Stands United
On Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day, Vijay expressed his support for Sri Lankan Tamils and paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the final phase of the Sri Lankan civil war in 2009. The day is observed by Tamils around the world as Tamil Genocide Remembrance Day, remembering the thousands of civilians who were killed during the conflict’s final stages in Mullivaikkal, located in northern Sri Lanka.
In his message, Vijay said the pain and suffering faced by Sri Lankan Tamils should never be forgotten. He emphasized the importance of justice, peace, and protecting the rights and dignity of Tamil people everywhere. His statement received attention from supporters and members of the Tamil community, especially during a time when emotions connected to the war remain strong.
Mullivaikkal Remembrance Day is marked every year on May 18. Many people gather in remembrance events, light candles, hold prayers, and honor the victims of the war. The final months of the conflict between the Sri Lankan government and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam were among the deadliest periods in Sri Lanka’s history.
The day also marks the anniversary of the death of Velupillai Prabhakaran, the leader of the LTTE, who was killed in 2009 during the last stage of the war. His death officially brought the decades-long civil war to an end, but the memories of the conflict and the demand for accountability continue to remain important issues for many Tamils across the world.
