AAI Deploys 100 Staff to Assist Airport Passengers
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is set to deploy nearly 100 staff members at Chennai airport to help passengers navigate the facility. This move comes after months of criticism over poor signage and confusion, particularly when locating key areas like cab-boarding points.
These staff will wear uniforms with identification badges and will be stationed outside T1 and T4 Domestic Terminals, T2 International Terminal, and the multi-level parking area. Their main roles include assisting senior citizens, pregnant women, and disabled passengers in finding their way to cabs or other exits, as well as providing directions to all travelers.
Devaraj Damodaram, a local resident, shared his frustrating experience at the airport earlier this year. He was left confused upon exiting the domestic terminal due to inadequate signage and had to rely on a co-passenger for assistance. While he commended the new initiative, he urged AAI to improve signage as well.
Passengers on social media have also expressed similar concerns. Arun Ganesh highlighted difficulties in locating the Metro station at T2, noting the lack of clear signs or pathways. His post reflects widespread confusion among travelers trying to navigate the airport’s layout.
The AAI aims to address these issues by providing additional support through its staff, though ongoing improvements to signage and wayfinding are still needed to fully enhance the passenger experience.
