India vs Afghanistan T20I Match Confirmed for September 13

The first T20 International between India and Afghanistan will take place as planned on Sunday, September 13, at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) confirmed the date after Delhi Traffic Police requested a scheduling change due to the BRICS Summit.

Afghanistan is officially hosting the three-match series, even though all matches are being held in New Delhi. The remaining games will be on September 15 and 17 at the same stadium.

Initially, there was uncertainty about the match date after reports suggested it might be postponed. However, the DDCA clarified on X that the match would proceed as scheduled. They assured fans that all necessary arrangements were in place, with no delay expected.

The decision followed a meeting between the DDCA and Delhi Traffic Police to address concerns about crowd management and traffic during the BRICS Summit, which is taking place in Delhi on September 12 and 13. The police emphasized the need for extensive traffic arrangements to accommodate foreign delegates and dignitaries attending the summit.

Despite these challenges, the match will go ahead as planned. Fans with tickets can expect a usual evening start. The series marks Afghanistan’s home T20I fixtures in India, part of their Future Tours Programme. India’s captain is Shreyas Iyer, while Afghanistan’s skipper is Ibrahim Zadran.

With city-wide security measures in place, commuters heading to the stadium should prepare for possible traffic diversions and delays. The DDCA has assured police support for smooth crowd movement during the match.
