Ethan Davis Injury: Tennessee Tight End Out for 2026 Season

Tennessee’s starting tight end Ethan Davis will miss the rest of the 2026 college football season after suffering an ACL injury in Week 2. Head coach Josh Heupel confirmed the injury during his press conference.

Davis, a senior from Atlanta, was an important part of Tennessee’s offense and had already scored touchdowns in both of the team’s first two games. He was injured during Saturday’s game against Georgia Tech after appearing to hurt his leg. He left the field and did not return to the game.

His absence is a major setback for Tennessee, particularly because he had become an important target for freshman quarterback Faizon Brandon. Davis provided the quarterback with a reliable option in the middle of the field and also played an important role as a blocker.

During the first two weeks of the season, Davis caught three passes for 43 yards and two touchdowns. Although his number of receptions was small, his ability to make important plays near the end zone made him a valuable part of the offense.

The ACL injury is also another setback for Davis after he missed most of Tennessee’s preseason because of an ankle injury. He had worked his way back into the starting lineup before suffering the latest injury.

Over his four seasons with Tennessee, Davis has played 26 games and recorded 39 receptions for 433 yards and six touchdowns. Despite the season-ending injury, he still has one year of college eligibility remaining.

Tennessee will now have to find ways to replace Davis’s production. Sophomore DaSaahn Brame is expected to receive more opportunities, while South Alabama transfer Trent Thomas could also play a bigger role.

Coach Heupel said the team must be ready to move forward and give other players an opportunity. His message is that the next player in the lineup must be prepared to step up and make the most of the opportunity.

The Volunteers are currently 2-0 and will face Kennesaw State in their next game. After that, they will have a much tougher challenge when they take on No. 1-ranked Texas in Week 4.

Davis’s injury comes at an important point in Tennessee’s season. With difficult games ahead, the team will need its other tight ends and offensive players to take on greater responsibilities.

For Tennessee, the focus now shifts to maintaining its strong start while adjusting to the loss of one of its key offensive players. The coming weeks will show whether the Volunteers can successfully fill the gap left by Davis.
