Cases Filed Against DMK Leaders Over Remarks

CHENNAI: Police have registered cases against senior DMK leaders A Raja and P K Sekar Babu over alleged defamatory and derogatory remarks made during recent party protests in Chennai.

According to a police official, cases have been filed under various legal provisions following complaints about statements allegedly made against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay during demonstrations.

Apart from Raja and Sekar Babu, a case has also been registered against DMK MLA Vasantham Karthikeyan. Police said the alleged remarks were made during a protest on September 12.

A case was registered at B1 North Beach Police Station against P K Sekar Babu, who is the DMK Harbour MLA and Chennai East district secretary. The case followed a complaint alleging that he made derogatory comments about the Chief Minister during a party protest.

The protest was reportedly organised in response to remarks made by the Chief Minister in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. Police are examining the statements made during the demonstration and the complaints submitted against the leaders.

Meanwhile, Saidapet police registered a separate case against A Raja based on a complaint filed by TVK functionary Karthik. The complaint alleges that Raja made derogatory remarks against Energy Resources and Law Minister R Nirmal Kumar during the protest.

The demonstrations were linked to the political debate surrounding the Chief Minister’s speech in the Assembly. The issue has led to a fresh political confrontation between the ruling DMK and its opponents.

Police have registered the cases based on the complaints and are expected to examine the available evidence, including statements and other material connected with the protests. Further action will depend on the outcome of the investigation.

The development comes amid increasing political exchanges in Tamil Nadu, with leaders from different parties continuing to criticise each other over speeches, protests and statements made in public.
