BJP to Hold Nationwide Protest Against Kharge’s Modi Remark

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced plans to hold protests across India on Monday, October 26, 2025, following remarks made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late father. The BJP described the comments as offensive and disrespectful, triggering a political dispute between the ruling party and the Congress.

The controversy began during an event in Patna, Bihar, on Sunday, October 25. Kharge reportedly made a remark that referred to Modi’s father while criticising the Prime Minister. The statement quickly attracted attention and prompted strong reactions from BJP leaders, who accused the Congress leadership of using personal attacks against Modi instead of focusing on political issues.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also criticised Kharge’s remarks. He described the comment as a violation of political decorum and questioned the language used by a senior opposition leader. Several other BJP leaders joined in condemning the statement, arguing that political disagreements should be expressed without bringing family members into the discussion.

The BJP announced its protest plans through an official press release. The party said demonstrations would be organised at state headquarters across the country to express opposition to the remarks about the Prime Minister’s late father. The protests are intended to highlight what the BJP considers inappropriate language in public and political discussions.

Bihar is also expected to witness demonstrations over the controversy. BJP workers have planned protest activities in several locations, including marches and the burning of effigies. In Patna, the protest march is scheduled to begin near the BJP’s regional office before proceeding through the designated route.

The dispute has added to the political tension between the BJP and the Congress. BJP leaders have accused the opposition party, led by Rahul Gandhi, of repeatedly targeting Modi with personal criticism. The Congress, meanwhile, has continued to challenge the government’s policies and the Prime Minister’s leadership on various political and public issues.

Political exchanges between the two parties frequently attract national attention, particularly when senior leaders make statements during public events. Such remarks can quickly become major political issues, with party workers organising demonstrations and leaders responding through press conferences and public statements.

The latest controversy has once again raised questions about the language used by politicians during political campaigns and public meetings. While leaders from different parties regularly criticise one another, disagreements over personal remarks can shift public attention away from policy discussions and governance issues.

The BJP’s planned demonstrations are expected to bring the controversy into the public spotlight across several states. The protests will also provide an opportunity for party supporters to express their opposition to Kharge’s reported comments.

As the political dispute continues, attention is likely to remain on the responses from both the BJP and the Congress. The episode highlights the growing political tensions between the two major parties and the importance of responsible language in public debate.
