Cal Quantrill Leads Rangers to Victory as They Defeat Rays 6-0

In a strong performance, Cal Quantrill pitched seven innings, allowing only two singles and two walks. Corey Seager hit a crucial two-run home run, helping the Texas Rangers secure a 6-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday night.

Quantrill (7-5) has been pitching effectively since July 28, with a low ERA of 1.25 across eight outings. He also performs well against the Rays, with a career ERA of 1.77 in seven starts. Jakob Junis and Chase Silseth finished the game, combining for a three-hitter, marking Texas’ 13th shutout this season.

Seager’s home run in the fifth inning was highlighted by his previous close calls, including balls that almost left the field. The Rangers took an early lead in the fourth when Wyatt Langford doubled and scored on Justin Foscue’s single. They added two more runs in the eighth inning through Evan Carter’s triple and Jake Burger’s sacrifice fly.

Currently, the Rangers (70-71) are close to the AL’s final wild-card spot, trailing Cleveland by half a game and Houston by two games. On the other hand, Tampa Bay’s Shane McClanahan (10-7) struggled, allowing four runs in five innings and failing to pitch six full innings since July 8.

The Rays, despite leading the AL East with an 83-57 record, have been struggling recently, losing eight games this season and dropping nine out of 20 since August 14. They haven’t won at Globe Life Field since June 2, 2022.

In Friday’s game, Nick Martinez (13-4, 2.99 ERA) will pitch for the Rays against the Rangers’ Kumar Rocker (5-10, 4.44 ERA).
