Delhi Police Busts Fake Call Centre Scam; 18 Arrested for Swindling American Citizens
The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has successfully cracked down on a fake call centre that allegedly duped American citizens by posing as customer support representatives, leading to the arrest of 18 individuals involved in the scam. Special Commissioner of Police (Crime), Ravindra Singh Yadav, revealed that the operation came to light through specific information about an illegal international call centre operating in the Vasant Kunj area of southwest Delhi, specifically targeting US citizens.
The call centre operated under the guise of offering technical support on behalf of Microsoft IC. A team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Amit Goel, conducted a raid at the call centre premises, where they found the accused engaged in online cheating, masquerading as tech support executives. The raid yielded the discovery of 12 operational laptops connected via two routers, utilized by 14 telecallers, and equipped with applications like Micro SIP and X lite.
The laptops also contained recordings of customer interactions and scripted conversations, providing crucial evidence. During the raid, all 14 telecallers were apprehended, along with three other individuals involved in orchestrating the fraudulent operation.
