Directive to Demolish Unused Water Tanks in Kancheepuram Schools

Kancheepuram District Collector, Kalaiselvi Mohan, has issued a directive to the School Education Department, urging them to inspect overhead water tanks, toilets, and septic tanks in schools. The directive specifically targets the demolition of any such structures that are not in use, following an incident where rotten eggs were discovered in an unused water tank in a school in the district.

The School Education Department has been instructed to submit a status report by November 28, detailing the inspection findings and actions taken. Ms. Mohan emphasized that several schools had unused cement concrete tanks that remained undemolished, prompting officials to initiate their removal.

Furthermore, officials are mandated to document the demolition process through photographs and establish a schedule for regular cleaning of drinking water tanks, similar to the cleaning routine for Overhead Tanks (OHTs) every 15 days.
