DMK Attacks Congress Over TVK Support
Political tensions have increased in Tamil Nadu after the Congress party decided to leave its long-standing alliance with the DMK and extend support to Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for government formation.
Senior DMK leaders strongly criticized the Congress decision, accusing the party of betraying both the alliance and the voters’ mandate.
DMK treasurer T. R. Baalu said Congress had abandoned a trusted partnership during a politically difficult time.
In a statement, Baalu recalled how the DMK had stood by Congress during several crises in the past and supported the national party at important moments in Indian politics.
He argued that Congress’s sudden decision to support TVK instead of remaining with the DMK was unfair and politically disappointing.
Baalu also accused Congress of ignoring the trust built over more than two decades of alliance politics in Tamil Nadu.
At the same time, some Congress leaders and functionaries called for restraint in public criticism and urged party members to avoid escalating tensions with the DMK leadership.
They emphasized that the current political situation in Tamil Nadu is highly unstable and requires careful handling.
Congress leaders defended their decision by saying the party was acting in accordance with the changing political environment and focusing on its future role in the state.
The development marks a major shift in Tamil Nadu politics, as the DMK-Congress alliance had remained one of the state’s strongest political partnerships for many years.
Political observers say the breakup could significantly reshape alliance structures and political equations ahead of future elections.
With TVK now becoming the center of government formation talks, tensions between former allies DMK and Congress are expected to continue in the coming days.
