DMK Law Officers Resign Amid TVK Uncertainty

More than 100 law officers who represented the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government and its various agencies have submitted their resignations amid uncertainty over whether Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam will officially form the next government in Tamil Nadu.

These law officers, including government advocates and legal representatives, were appointed during the DMK administration to handle cases for the state government and its departments in courts. As political power may soon shift, it is common practice for such officers to step down, allowing the incoming government to appoint its own legal team.

Despite submitting their resignations, the officers have been instructed to continue their duties for one more week. This temporary arrangement is meant to ensure that government legal work continues without disruption until the new administration decides on fresh appointments.

Sources said that during transitional periods, the party expected to form the government usually appoints a few senior advocates as an interim arrangement, especially during the court’s summer vacation. These temporary appointments help maintain representation for the government in urgent legal matters.

However, in this case, no such interim appointments have been announced so far, creating uncertainty among legal circles.

The delay is linked to the ongoing political situation, as there is still no complete clarity on government formation by TVK despite its strong electoral performance.

Legal experts say the resignation of law officers is a routine administrative process whenever there is a change in government, but the transition must be handled carefully to avoid affecting important court cases involving the state.

The coming days are expected to be crucial as Tamil Nadu awaits final political developments and decisions regarding the formation of the next government, along with key administrative appointments.
