Expansion of Parking Facilities at Chennai Metro Rail Stations

To address the growing demand for parking space at two crucial stations, Little Mount and Thirumangalam, Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) is undertaking significant expansions. Little Mount station’s parking capacity, currently accommodating 250 two-wheelers and 50 four-wheelers, will be expanded to accommodate 400 two-wheelers and 50 four-wheelers. Similarly, at Thirumangalam station, plans include adding an additional level to the parking facility, accommodating 350 more two-wheelers.

Additionally, a new parking facility is being developed as part of the phase II project, which will cater to both two-wheelers and four-wheelers. The demand for parking space arises from the absence of comprehensive last-mile and first-mile connectivity options, prompting thousands of commuters to rely on personal vehicles to access Metro stations. The expansions aim to alleviate parking constraints and cater to the needs of the increasing number of commuters.
