Holiday Rush Leads to Severe Traffic Jams in Chennai Ahead of Vinayaka Chaturthi

Chennai experienced severe traffic congestion on key arterial roads, including G.S.T. Road, Rajiv Gandhi Salai, Poonamallee High Road, East Coast Road, Velachery Main Road, and the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road, during the weekend due to the holiday rush ahead of the Vinayaka Chaturthi festival.

The city’s major railway stations and bus termini also faced overcrowding as thousands of people traveled to their native places with three consecutive holidays. While traffic congestion persisted on Friday and Saturday, the situation eased slightly on Sunday.

Traffic police had a challenging task managing the holiday crowd and vehicular congestion in various parts of the city during this period.
