IIT Madras’s Mobile Medical Calibration Unit: Advancing Healthcare Accessibility

IIT Madras has launched a groundbreaking initiative with the introduction of a mobile unit dedicated to calibrating medical diagnostic devices. Led by Institute Director V. Kamakoti, the van is equipped to calibrate a wide range of life-saving medical equipment, ensuring accuracy in diagnoses. Developed under the Anaivarukkum IIT M initiative, the project underscores the institute’s commitment to affordable and quality healthcare.

With internal grants amounting to ₹1 crore, the van aims to not only reduce calibration costs but also streamline the process for healthcare personnel. This initiative aligns with national sustainable development goals, particularly SDG 3, emphasizing health and well-being for all. Once certified by the National Accreditation Board, the van will traverse Tamil Nadu, bringing essential calibration services to towns and villages, marking a significant stride towards accessible healthcare.
