India Hands Over Houses in Sri Lanka’s Galle District
India and Sri Lanka have reached another milestone in their development partnership with the handover of 24 houses in Galle District, Sri Lanka. The houses were built under the India-supported Model Village Housing Project, which aims to provide affordable homes and improve living conditions for local communities.
The new homes were officially handed over to residents during an inauguration ceremony attended by Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha and Sri Lankan Housing Minister Dr. H. M. Susil Ranasinghe. The project reflects the continued cooperation between the two neighbouring countries in supporting housing and community development.
Didula Model Village Inaugurated
During the ceremony, the officials inaugurated the Didula Model Village and handed over the completed houses to their residents.
The 24 homes are expected to provide families with better housing and a more secure living environment. Access to suitable housing can help improve daily life by giving families a stable place to live and supporting their long-term well-being.
The inauguration also highlighted the importance of cooperation between India and Sri Lanka in carrying out development projects that directly benefit local people.
India Supports Affordable Housing in Sri Lanka
The Model Village Housing Project is part of India’s wider development assistance to Sri Lanka. Through such initiatives, India supports efforts to improve housing facilities and strengthen living conditions for communities in need.
Affordable housing is an important part of community development because it provides families with greater stability and security. Projects like the Didula Model Village aim to help residents build a better future in their own communities.
Strengthening India–Sri Lanka Relations
India and Sri Lanka share close historical, cultural and economic ties. Development projects in areas such as housing demonstrate the practical side of their partnership and the countries’ continued efforts to support one another.
The handover of the 24 houses in Galle District marks another step in this cooperation. It also highlights India’s role in supporting community-focused development initiatives in Sri Lanka.
With the Didula Model Village now handed over to its residents, the project is expected to contribute to improved living conditions and strengthen the ongoing development partnership between the two countries.
