Rajasthan School Building Destroyed After Campaign
A government primary school in Rampura-Kanwarpura village, near Jaipur, was demolished on September 2, 2026. The old school building had been declared unsafe after a safety survey conducted in 2025. The building was removed to make space for a new and safer school structure.
The school building was constructed in 1985 and had been used by local students for many years. However, after the safety inspection, authorities found that the building was not safe for students and teachers. Officials were present when the old structure was demolished.
The issue had earlier gained attention during the ‘School Thik Karo’ campaign conducted by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activists. The campaign was launched to inspect government schools and highlight poor infrastructure and safety problems across Rajasthan.
During one of their visits, CJP activists found that students were being taught in a cattle enclosure. The activists raised concerns about the condition of the school and demanded that students be moved to a safer place. Following the campaign, the students were shifted to another location where they could continue their education more safely.
The school issue also became controversial after CJP activists reportedly faced opposition from villagers during their visit. The situation turned into a clash, with both sides filing complaints against each other. CJP leader Ashutosh Ranka later recalled that activists faced stones and violence while inspecting the school.
The demolition of the old building is now being seen by the CJP as an important step toward improving conditions for students. Ranka described the construction of a new school building as a victory for the children and said that continued public attention helped bring action on the issue.
The government has allocated ₹18 lakh for construction of the new school building. A part of the money will come through an MLA development grant. The new structure is expected to provide students with a safer and better environment for learning.
The school action is part of a wider effort by the Rajasthan Education Department to improve the safety and infrastructure of government schools. A safety audit was carried out across 65,308 schools in the state. Based on the findings, the department has planned to spend ₹12,335.90 crore over five years on school infrastructure and safety improvements.
Experts will also be involved in reviewing the safety of school buildings and identifying structures that need repairs or replacement. The government aims to reduce risks for students and teachers by improving old and damaged buildings.
For the current year, around ₹3,000 crore has been allocated for school repairs and infrastructure work. The plans include the construction of 3,587 new schools and major repairs to around 22,589 existing schools.
The demolition of the unsafe school near Jaipur highlights the importance of regular safety checks in government schools. The planned investment is expected to improve school buildings and provide students across Rajasthan with safer places to study.
