Tamil Nadu to Seek Supreme Court Action on 86 Vacant MBBS Seats, States Health Minister

Tamil Nadu’s Health Minister, Ma. Subramanian, has declared the state government’s intention to file a petition in the Supreme Court to address the issue of vacant MBBS seats. Last year, six MBBS seats remained unfilled, a figure that has surged to 86 vacant seats this year. The Health Department officials have already submitted a report to the Advocate General (AG), and discussions are underway regarding the filing of an interlocutory application (IA).

The State government aims to notify the Union government of its intentions and seek the surrender of these vacant seats. While a letter had been previously sent to the Union government, urging them to conduct additional counseling rounds or permit the state to fill the seats, a response has not yet been received. The Health Secretary is currently in communication with higher officials to address this pressing matter.
