Karachi Mall Fire Death Toll Rises to 14

The death toll from a major fire at a shopping mall in Karachi, Pakistan, has increased to 14 after rescue teams recovered eight more bodies from the debris. The incident has shocked the city and raised serious concerns about fire safety.

The fire broke out late on Saturday night, January 17, 2026, at Gul Plaza, a busy wholesale and retail market. The building had shops located in the basement, mezzanine floor, and three additional floors, making rescue operations difficult.

Firefighters and rescue workers worked for many hours to control the blaze and search for survivors. The fire was finally brought under control by Sunday night, January 18.

Authorities said that several people were trapped inside the building when the fire started. An investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the fire and to check whether safety rules were followed.

The tragedy has once again highlighted the need for strict fire safety measures in commercial buildings.
