Bollywood War Films: Hits, Misses, Border 2
War films have always been one of Bollywood’s most emotional and popular genres. They focus on patriotism, sacrifice, bravery, and the idea of national pride. These films often capture the imagination of audiences, but not all of them succeed at the box office.
Some war films became big hits. Haqeeqat, Border, and Sam Bahadur stood out for their strong storytelling and emotional impact, connecting well with viewers. On the other hand, films like LOC: Kargil, 120 Bahadur, and some OTT-first releases such as Bhuj and Gunjan Saxena struggled to make a strong commercial impact.
Interestingly, Shershaah, which skipped theatres and went straight to OTT platforms, became a huge success online, showing that digital releases can also find a wide audience.
Now, with Border 2 coming soon, expectations are high. Filmmakers and audiences hope it will learn from past successes and failures. The challenge will be to balance strong storytelling, action, and patriotism while keeping the audience engaged.
The history of Bollywood war films shows that while the genre has potential to create blockbusters, connecting emotionally with viewers remains the key to success.
