Congress Leader Says He Reported Veeramani Scandal Two Years Ago

Congress leader M.P. Ranjan Kumar has claimed that he informed the Chennai Police about the alleged sexual abuse of a minor girl by businessman R. Veeramani as early as November 2024.

According to Kumar, he submitted a written complaint to the police and also provided a video clip that allegedly showed the businessman abusing a minor girl. He said he personally met a senior police officer at Egmore and explained the details of the case.

Kumar also stated that he shared other evidence, including WhatsApp messages, to prove that he had attempted to bring the matter to the attention of the authorities. He claimed that his efforts were aimed at ensuring that the alleged abuse was investigated and that the victims received justice.

However, Chennai Police reportedly stated that they received the complaint and the video only from a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in October 2025. This account differs from Kumar’s claim that he had already informed the police nearly a year earlier.

Kumar has accused the police of ignoring his earlier complaints and delaying action in the case. He questioned why the authorities were stating that they had acted only after receiving the complaint from the NGO in 2025.

The Congress leader said his main concern was to ensure justice for the alleged victims. He added that he was ready to cooperate fully with the investigation and provide any further information or evidence required by the authorities.

The allegations and the differing accounts regarding when the police received the complaint are expected to be examined as part of the ongoing proceedings. The claims against the businessman will need to be established through a proper investigation and legal process.
