India-Pacific Islands Forum Foreign Ministers Meet in New York

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar led a meeting of Foreign Ministers from the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The meeting focused on strengthening cooperation between India and Pacific Island countries and increasing coordination in regional and international forums. The discussions also highlighted the importance of closer partnerships in areas of common interest.

This was the second FIPIC Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The meeting provided an opportunity for participating countries to review the progress made since the establishment of the FIPIC framework and discuss areas where cooperation can be expanded further.

India has developed its partnership with Pacific Island countries through FIPIC, with cooperation covering areas such as capacity building, development assistance, renewable energy, technology and the blue economy.

During the latest meeting, the participating Foreign Ministers discussed ways to deepen collaboration and strengthen their partnership in the coming years. They also exchanged views on issues of regional and international importance.

The meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly reflects the continued engagement between India and Pacific Island countries. The discussions are expected to contribute to future cooperation and help advance shared priorities through the FIPIC framework.
